How to print ChemStation chromatograms, with or without ChemStation
You need a chromatogram on paper or as a PDF: for a lab notebook, a report or a colleague. If you have an offline copy of ChemStation, print it from Data Analysis. If you don't, or the run is from an old PC, you can print the .D data from your browser.
In ChemStation: offline Data Analysis
An offline copy of ChemStation opens the same data without the instrument. In most revisions:
- Start the offline session and switch to the Data Analysis view.
- Load the run: pick it in the data navigation, or File > Load Signal. If your runs are in another folder, add that folder on the Paths tab of the Preferences dialog first.
- Report > Specify Report, tab Report Settings: choose classic or Intelligent Reporting and the report style. For a PDF, select File, then PDF, and set a folder under Copy report to.
- Report > Print Report prints it.
Menu names differ between ChemStation revisions, and labs that use Intelligent Reporting print from report templates instead. Check your revision's help if a menu is not there. Steps from Agilent's knowledge base (reporting in OpenLab ChemStation) and Agilent Community answers.
Without ChemStation: print from your browser
- Open Nagura Lab and drop the
.Dfolder (or several) on the page. Old ChemStation, OpenLab.dxand MassHunter runs all work. - Tick the signals you want. Several runs on one chart give an overlay; % of range puts signals with different units on one scale.
- Drag across the chart to zoom to the part you want on paper.
- Click Print (or press Ctrl+P). The page prints in landscape with only the chromatogram and its legend, no buttons. Choose Save as PDF as the printer for a PDF.
If a spectrum is open below the chart (a DAD spectrum or a mass spectrum at one time), it prints on the next page. Download PNG gives the same chromatogram as an image with the legend, for a document or slide. The files are decoded on your computer and never uploaded.
What a browser printout does not include
Nagura Lab shows the signals as recorded. It does not integrate peaks the way ChemStation does, so there is no peak table and no calibration on the page (the Pro batch tools give the highest point, its retention time and the area for time windows you set, not an integration report), and it does not reproduce ChemStation's report layouts. For a formal report with results, print from ChemStation or OpenLab.
More detail
- Compare and overlay several HPLC runs: a folder of runs at once, % of range, one CSV.
- ChemStation on Windows 11: which versions work, and opening the data anyway.
- Export ChemStation .D data to CSV, for Excel or your own plots.
